We saw Stan call Ford in ATOTS and immediately hung up when it was answered. Stan probably got the number of Ford’s college dorm from Ma and tried calling when he could but always chickened out, for fear of what Stanford would say. And got the number when Ford got the shack and tried to call over and over again. So I can see Ford having notes on the silent phone calls he continuously got over the years not realizing it was Stanley.
